Face ancestry test from a photo

A DNA kit takes weeks and reads your genes. A face ancestry test takes about a minute and reads what everyone else sees: your features. FaceMetric turns one selfie into a breakdown of the world regions your face resembles.

Face test versus DNA test

The two tests answer different questions. A DNA test compares your genetic markers with reference populations and estimates where your ancestors lived. A face test compares the proportions of your facial features with populations around the world and estimates which ones your appearance resembles.

Neither replaces the other. Many people take a face test precisely because their DNA result does not match how people see them, or because they want an answer today rather than in six weeks.

  • DNA test: genes, a saliva sample, results in weeks
  • Face test: appearance, one selfie, results in about a minute
  • DNA test: where your ancestors may have lived
  • Face test: which populations your features look like

What the test looks at

FaceMetric maps 468 points across your face and reads the proportions between them: the shape and spacing of your eyes, the profile of your nose, your cheekbones, jawline and overall face shape.

Each of these traits has its own regional pattern. Your report shows how they combine into an overall picture and which traits pull your result toward each region.

What you get in your report

Your report is organized so you can see both the summary and the reasoning behind it.

  • An ancestry map with a percentage for each matching region
  • Your strongest regional match
  • A trait-by-trait breakdown of your face
  • Cultural context for the regions you match

How to take the test

Answer a few short questions about what you want to learn, then take one clear selfie in good light. The analysis runs automatically and your report is usually ready in about a minute.

Your selfie is used only to generate the report and is not kept afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a face ancestry test?

It is accurate at what it measures: which populations your facial features resemble. It is not a measure of genetic ancestry, so results can differ from a DNA test, especially for people with mixed backgrounds or features that skipped a generation.

Do I need to send a sample?

No. All you need is a phone camera. There is no kit, no saliva sample and no lab.

Can I take the test with an old photo?

The test uses a live selfie so that lighting, angle and expression are good enough for an accurate read.

Is my photo stored?

No. Your selfie is processed to create your report and is not kept after the analysis is complete.

Can I see what the report looks like first?

Yes. The sample report shows every section of a real FaceMetric report, from the regional map to the trait breakdown and cultural context, so you know exactly what you will get.

How much does it cost?

Starting the quiz is free. Your full report comes with FaceMetric Premium, and checkout shows the exact price before you pay.
